Blog Candy Winner and then some...

omg.... thought this had posted a couple of weeks ago!!

I was delighted to find I had a parcel to pick up from the post office and even more delighted to find a box of ribbon from Elizabeth of 217 Creations!!!  I couldn't believe my eyes when I opened the box... it was stuffed and I do mean literally stuffed with ribbon from her stash which I was lucky enough to have won from commenting on her blog!!!  I do encourage you to visit Elizabeth if you have not already - she does some really awesome creating and has video tutorials as well as gypsy files...   thanks very much Elizabeth!   scrap happy...
not sure how she managed to get it all in that tiny box...

all laid out - it's at least 3 - 4 layers deep...

Round Five - Thanks Very Much!!

Well, I went over to Practical Scrappers yesterday morning and to my dismay, I did not make it through to the top five...  :(  I do want to thank everyone who voted for me over the last month as I really do appreciate it very much - it has been a fun experience!  Here is the card I submitted for the next challenge which was to use rainbows and dry embossing (raised imprints on the cardstock).  I found this beautiful starburst rainbow image online and unfortunately forgot to save the site I got it from (it is a wallpaper image).  The French Ladies I found at *The Graphics Fairy* Vintage Images.  If you love this kind of ephemera, you have to check her blog out!  I printed the rainbow paper and ran it through my Epic 6 with the "Happy Birthday" embossing folder.  The metallic purple cardstock is from a DCWV stack.  The ribbon was given to me from my friend Anne (incidentally, she was awesome in rounding up votes for me) and I have been hoarding it but this seemed the perfect place to use it!  The bling is from the dollar store.  I may sound like a broken record, but the picture does not do this card justice!  scrap happy!

Round Four and still going!!

I cannot believe I forgot to post this!!  I was at Scrapfest with my friends when it was posted and was so tired that I didn't get it posted on Sunday and now it's almost Thursday!!  Wow, time flies doesn't it!  Anyways, thanks yet again to all of my wonderful friends for voting for me over at Practical Scrappers in their Huge Cardmaking Contest - this week they will be whittling it down from ten to five cards with 4 being chosen by popularity and the 5th being their choice.  I really hope I make it through as I love the card I made for the next round...  For this card we had to use chevrons and do some stitching.  I was able to use up more scraps and although you cannot tell from the picture, the flower has 3 layers from each of the 3 different papers I used.  It's a little different than I normally do but I like it because it is still clean and simple.  The label is from the new Art Philosophy cart and the stamp is CTMH.  scrap happy!

Round 3!!!

A huge thank you to everyone out there who is taking time to vote for me over at Practical Scrappers in their Huge Card Making Contest - I have made it to Round 3!!!!!   The challenge for this round was to create a card using either a flag or banner and the word "happy".  Now last time I didn't follow the directions so well (forgot about the twine) so I thought I made sure to pay close attention this time to what was required.  But then I got so excited about the idea I had for the banner and added the sentiment Merry Christmas instead!  Of course I did figure it out before submitting and once again fixed my error...  and am thinking I need to post the instructions on the wall in large print!!  Anyhow, I used my most favourite Bo Bunny papers and cut the banner using Wrap it Up and Lyrical Letters.  I fussy cut some of the trees and used Bo Bunny rub ons for the others.  The bling is from my stash as well as the green wire I used for the banner.  So now you have to go over to Practical Scrappers and vote once again all week for me!!  scrap happy...

wedding mini

Kathryn from Life on the Scrap Beach has a very easy to follow tutorial for a paper bag mini album online here - so easy that this was my first attempt and while there are a few mistakes, no one else seemed to notice...  I used predominantly papers from K & Company and similar papers from Recollections.  The flowers are mostly of my own making although the white roses are from Kaisercraft and the butterflies are from Michaels - the white ones from the wedding section and the others from Recollections.  The paper lunch bags are just from the dollar store; however, in future I would pay a little more for a higher quality bag.  The ribbons and other bling are from my stash that I have picked up here and there along the way.  I hope you enjoy as much as I enjoyed making and giving.  scrap happy!!

Huge Card Making Contest - Round Two!

Thanks to all of my friends out there (old and new) who took the time to vote for me and help me make it through to Round Two of Practical Scrappers Huge Card Making Contest!  It is pretty exciting as this is the first time one of my cards was chosen for a contest.  In Round Two the theme is fall and we have to use twine on the card.  Did I mention I was pretty excited...  well I made a beautiful card and added some beautiful ribbon to it - then I went back and re-read the instructions (thankfully) and of course I was supposed to have used twine... lol   So I re-created the card using twine in place of the ribbon although I think I still like the ribbon better...  Hopefully everyone will like this card as well and vote all this week to put me through to Round Three... scrap happy!

McQueen Birthday for Little Man

I made up this card for my grandson's birthday (yesterday) as he had seen me do one similar for my brother in law and was not happy that it wasn't for him.  I smudged it up a little so he could handle it without getting yelled at for getting it dirty... lol.  It sure takes a long time to put together all of the layers for this even though it's the second one I have done.  I used the Disney Cars cartridge and am submitting this in the Cricut blog contest for World Card Making Day...  scrap happy!

happy world card making day!!!

What a way to start off World Card Making Day - I was chosen one of 40 finalists over at Practical Scrappers for their Huge Card Making Day Contest!!!  The challenge for the first round was to create a card with pink on it.  I submitted the wedding card I did up for a friend which I have re-posted here and originally here. Now it is up to the readers as to who continues so you have to go to their blog and vote for me!!  You will find my card in the fourth group.  Even if I don't go on to the next round, I am very happy to have been chosen!  scrap happy...

more in the series...

Did you know that my favourite colour is purple (hahaha)...  I thought I would post a few more cards that I had made over the weekend.  They are all similar as I continue to use up scraps from my stash and as I haven't made much of a dent, I think I could be doing this for a long, long time  lol !  enjoy and scrap happy...

thinking of you...

I saw some very special people this weekend and just thinking about seeing them had me creating this card...  I found the perfect poem online to put on the inside of the card and am sorry that I only remembered to take a picture of the front of the card.  I love how it sparkles yet isn't gaudy looking.  Cardstock is from CTMH and the pattern paper is from DCWV Pocket Full of Posies.  Flowers are from Prima (large); Reflections (small) and the middle one is mine... the butterfly on the left is a Sandylion sticker and the one on the right is from Michael's wedding section.  Ribbon is from the dollar store and I think I need to go back and get some more of it because it is really nice to work with.  I am really happy with how it turned out.   scrap happy!

Speedy Recovery

I am currently backfilling for someone at work who is out for six weeks and I made up this card for everyone in the department to sign for her.  It so happens that she is also a fan of butterflies and the colour purple - how cool is that...  Cardstock is Bazill, butterflies from K&Co and the paper is from my scraps stash.  You may have noticed that I am really enjoying using a banner for my sentiment...  scrap happy!

Baby Shower

I have a lot of cards for many occasions in my stash but did not have anything for a baby shower which, of course, is the request I received this weekend.  I remembered that I had this clothesline stamp (by Ellison) and started with that.  I was going to use a button for the sun but found it too clumsy so I tried using this Fiskars corner stamp which I think does the job quite nicely.  The cloud brads were another clearance purchase but cannot recall from where and the sentiment is also a part of the stamp set noted above.  Paper is from my scrap stash (yaaaay!) and ribbon from Dollarama!  happy scrapping...

wedding card for a friend

I was pleasantly surprised when a girlfriend of mine asked me to make her up a wedding card and when I gave it to her, she felt it was worth $20!  well needless to say, I didn't take her money, but it sure was nice to hear...   It came together very quickly with the exception of finding the perfect verse which took quite awhile to source on the internet (some would say I shouldn't be so fussy).  My other issue was that I had purchased a box of 5.5" x 9.5" envelopes not realizing there was some text on the bottom flaps. I tried covering the entire back of the envelope with pattern paper but that didn't look right.  Then I unglued the flap thinking I would just replace it somehow.  It was at that point I realized I could just cover the flap with white cardstock, cut around following the flap edges, re-glue it down and voila the text is gone!  Perseverance pays off!!!  scrap happy...

a couple of cards....

One of the girls I work with is taking a leave of absence to go back to school - good for her!!!  I decided that when making a card I would start making them two at a time while also using up my scraps... this is much easier as I have now sorted all of my scraps into colours and put them into folders for easy access but no mess!  I love using butterflies on my cards and in this case, they are so appropriate don't you think?  scrap happy and enjoy your weekend!

inaugural sketch challenge at Another Freaking Scrappy Challenge!

Another Freaking Scrappy Challenge posted their inaugural sketch challenge today and you really should check it out!  The challenge is to scrap something fun or humorous as we all need a laugh once in a while...  My boys used to love to dress up in their Dad's old army gear ( he was with the Military Police) and as you can see by the expressions on their faces, they really did have a lot of fun doing so!!  Papers are from the DCWV Summer Stack from last year.  The title was cut using Opposites Attract, the police car from Boys Will Be Boys and the "dads" from Going Places.  Buttons are from my collection.  happy scrapping!!

randoms about me...

Over on CreaTV's Facebook page, they are having a contest around the fact that life is really about "The Little Things" and the prize is the newest collection from Fancy Pants that also defines this concept.  Isn't that so cool!  The collection is gorgeous and includes my favourite saying "live, laugh, love".  I so want this!!  My layout came together very easily and not only tells you about my favourite stones but uses my favourite colours and of course a few butterflies!  scrap happy...

my first guest design spot!!

I am so excited!!!  Today is the launch of my good friend Anne's new challenge blog -  Another Freaking Scrappy Challenge and it gets better...  I am a guest designer - how cool is that!!  I started my layout as per the sketch and instructions (make a layout that tells us about your dream! In your layout incorporate any two of cloud, rainbow, kite, or symbols of your dream – you can use a photo or drawing that is representative of your dream) using paper from Webster's Pages but then got so caught up in the "dream" that I forgot altogether about the sketch and kept right on scrapping...  in the end, it all worked out (I think).  I hope you also enjoy my version...  Please do check out all of the other fabulous layouts at her blog and perhaps you will be inspired to add your own "dream"...   While I haven't used it in this layout, I came across a tutorial for dyeing seam binding in any colour you want on a blog that I love and follow - Creations with Christina - what a really neat and thrifty idea...  scrap happy!

another birthday card

At PaperSecrets I belong to a birthday club where we send out birthday cards to other members.  This is the card I did up for the July birthdays.  I tried to keep it flat for mailing purposes which was harder than I thought it would be.  I am also still trying to go to my scraps before cutting new paper which was a little bit of a challenge as well.  The cardstock and the stamps are from CTMH.  The papers are from stacks purchased at Costco.  The ribbon is from the dollar store.  The ink is TH distress ink in my favourite colour of vintage photo.  I used the divine swirls embossing folder (another favourite).  Last but not least, the label is cut from the Elegant Edges cricut cart (yes, another favourite and bday present to myself... )       happy scrapping!

spoiler alert - seester don't look...

I finally finished my sister's (affectionately known as seester) birthday card but it is too fat to send via mail so she now has to wait until September to get it - sorry :(    I had this idea in my head for quite awhile and it came out not far from what I wanted although, in hindsight, I wish I had embossed the dress form stand.  The papers are from DCWV Mademoiselle stack - I really love the richness of this paper.  I used French Manor Cricut cart for the dress form and the sewing machine.  The mirror (or picture frame) is cut from Lacey Labels. The flowers are Prima (large roses), Reflections (small roses) and the accordion flower is mine!  Ribbon and bling are from Dollarama (gotta love that store).  I would have used Glossy Accents on the sewing machine and bits of the inside of the mirror (or picture frame) but I couldn't get the bottle open no matter how hard I tried!!  It is hard to tell but I did use the CTMH equivalent, Liquid Glass that I forgot I had until I went looking... oops....  happy scrapping!

for a little girl! (finally...)

My daughter-in-law asked me to do up this card for her neice's second birthday - finally, an opportunity to create something girly!!!!  Cardstock is DCWV and paper is K and Company.  The bling is mostly from the dollar store...  happy scrapping!!

wedding card

I mentioned in an earlier post that my friend was getting married and I have created this card for her.  My intention was to send it to Newfoundland but I didn't quite get it done in time so it will have to wait until she gets back.  I love the look of large cards and love the way this one turned out... I think my style is an ecclectic clean and simple... I used DCWV shimmer card stock for the base as well as CTMH white cardstock; sentiment is from Hero Arts; flowers from Stampendous and the pearls and ribbon were from Dollarama.  happy scrapping!!

Mini for Retirement

Doesn't time fly....  I can't believe it has been a couple of weeks since my last post... I found the inspiration for this mini at ScrapookPal's blog and had to try it. It had never occurred to me to use my cricut to cut out envelopes for a mini.  This is for a friend that recently retired after 35 years.  The pages each have a different theme and are meant to be a little thought provoking - Celebrate, Treasure, Create, Happiness, Dreams and Delight.  All of the papers are from a Martha Stewart collection which makes it easier to pull everything together. The flowers on the cover and the green flower were made by me... all other embellishments (love the butterflies) are just from my stash.  I did use some Clear Creations from Making Memories which I had bought on clearance and am now glad that I did.  I also used magnetic snaps from Basic Grey to close each envelope - they are so strong that they also keep the pages together.  The pictures show, in order top to bottom, - the album, fronts, backs, inside tags and tags from the outside.  I really love the challenge of doing up a mini and am hoping the process gets easier with practice.  happy scrapping!

Card Set for Seester...

My sister just sent me the pictures of this card set that I gave her last year for her birthday which also reminds me that I have yet to finish her card for this year (her birthday was May 30th) - oops :(  - unfortunately it has not yet made the trip out of my head...  Anyways, the idea here was to do up a set of cards that were similar (to make a set) but still have individual style...  I still like them and hope you do too...  happy scrapping!!

Father's Day card for a Special Dad

Happy Father's Day Eric!!  You make me very proud seeing the dad that you are!!!
